Poticas

It's been awhile since I've last updated the blog and it's because we've been so busy! Last week my mom taught me how to make poticas. It's a Slovenian pastry and nut roll. A family favorite, for sure! It took us all morning and afternoon, not because they're hard to make, but because there are lots of steps to the recipe. We had a lot of fun and we think they came out really well. We saved a couple, but are giving most of them to our friends and family for Christmas. Here Andrew and Nannie are grinding the nuts. The first step to making the poticas. We ground up seven pounds of walnuts - with the old fashioned hand grinder. Andrew's quite the multi-tasker... grinding walnuts and eating a banana! Two hands! It's a lot harder then it looks! The supervisors! My Aunt Louise (or Weezie, as we call her) came over to visit and see how we were doing. She's quite the baker and had already made her poticas for the Christmas season.
